When Will We Get a Manager?
I thought Cashman had a plan. I really did. But it’s been about a month and a half and we still don’t have a new manager. I am on pins and needles. My heart skips a beat every time I get a new ESPN alert. Who will it be?
I’m hoping it’s Rob Thomson. Here’s why. None of the guys they interviewed have managerial experience (I’m like 90% sure but don’t want to google). But Thomson has coaching experience and oh wait, yeah it’s for this Yankee team. He is the choice with the least amount of change attached to it. I think that with the success we had this year, that’s the move. I don’t think we can afford to shake things up too much. Obviously, this depends on factors that it’s impossible for me to know. How many of Joe’s idiot decisions did Rob contribute to? Do the guys like him? I can’t evaluate those aspects unless I was Cashman myself and sat in on those interviews.
If this had been last year, I would’ve been all in on Beltrán. And tbh, if they chose him I wouldn’t hate it. The only thing that would worry me is how new he is to this. I mean, when Joe was fired, Beltran still played baseball. BUT, we already know that he has great relationships with some of the guys, considering they were teammates (like Aaron). I think he’s a great mentor and could be the young fresh face this team needs. But again, I’m just a little worried about the lack of experience. But considering this whole team has been thriving on being young, naive, and inexperienced, maybe he’s perfect. Fuck it. I just changed my mind. I want Beltrán and I’m not rewriting this whole blog. This way you can see my thought process. Riveting stuff.
Something I feel needs to be stated though, is that in this case, considering these guys don’t have managerial experience, we don’t really know who’s right for the job because we didn’t sit in on those interviews. The rest are just hypotheses and guesses. And even if we did have guys in the mix who have managerial experience, I am of the steadfast belief that it is impossible to evaluate a manager unless you watch 90% of that team’s games. When I used to watch the Yankees and was critical of Joe, so many of the reasons I didn’t like his decisions were extremely nuanced details. If I had only been watching 1-2 games a week, I probably wouldn’t have had that background knowledge.
But anyway, Beltrán 4 manager. I will also be happy with Rob Thomson.
P.s. really not a fan of the idea of Aaron Boone as manager. Yeah he’s a Yankee hero but that doesn’t mean he should run the team. I’ve never been particularly impressed by his commentary and Beltrán is hands down the better “past Yankee” choice.
