Brian Cashman Committed Highway Robbery

Brian Cashman Committed Highway Robbery

It is December 11th, 2017 and the New York Yankees committed a crime today. They stole Giancarlo Stanton from the Miami Marlins. Highway robbery. We got the reigning NL MVP and a guy who hits bombs for breakfast for Starlin Castro and two SINGLE A prospects. We have so many top prospects and gave away NONE OF THEM.

When I heard about the idea of going after Stanton at first, I was fully against it. “How do you not want a guy who hits 60 bombs???” I’ll tell you how. First, we already have one. Second, I have been waiting for the Yankee team I saw in 2017 my entire life. Homegrown talent that loves each other so much. Constantly having fun. Most likable Yankee team of my lifetime. Not buying the top guys in baseball just because we have the money. And in their first year, despite many being rookies, we were capable of winning the World Series. A few things go differently here and there and we could’ve beaten the Astros and then the Dodgers.

So when I first hear we’re in talks for Stanton, obviously you have to think that means we’re going to give guys up. That is what we don’t want to do. We have arguably the best farm system out there and we should use them ourselves instead of trading them away. So that’s why I was hesitant. But we didn’t trade them away. We stole Giancarlo Stanton.

I just don’t want to revert to buying the best players that money can buy because I love the vibe this team has right now. But that’s not what happened, so for right now, this is just one guy. People yelling that we need Machado and Harper next need to shut their traps. That’s why people hate Yankee fans. We have arguably the best lineup in baseball right now. We don’t need those guys, especially Harper. We have a surplus of outfielders. Ellsbury is practically holding us hostage. Getting Bryce Harper would be buying a guy just to buy him which is dumb and everything people hate about this team.

Someone said to me that we needed to go out and get talent because these guys are good but not good enough. I’m sorry but that is laughable. That’s so Yankee fans it hurts. You have three guys who you could arguably build a franchise around in Judge, Sanchez, and Bird. People forget, at spring training last year, Greg Bird was the big name to watch out for. He was the guy hitting absurd dingers, but he got injured. He played well in the short time he was healthy, but those three guys back to back, and add in Didi? That’s a team that can win the World Series on their own. Hell, they almost did their first year trying.

Also, I hope Stanton realizes that he can’t just waltz in and this team belongs to him because it doesn’t. This is Aaron’s team.

Now everyone is crying about what Derek did. Am I wrong or are there other people who work in the Marlins organization? He didn’t buy the team outright. He bought it with a bunch of people. He can’t make these decisions willy nilly on his own. But I’m not surprised he isn’t super popular as an owner. He’s a no bullshit guy. He isn’t here to please anyone. He’s here to win. And he’s going to do whatever it takes. Keep in mind, Stanton vetoed the other teams Miami wanted to send him to. He WANTED to come to New York and he had that power. Once he made that decision, we were able to rob them blind.

I could honestly write a thousand more words but I’d be impressed if any of y’all read this whole thing already. 108 days till opening day motherfuckers.
